The Importance of Soft Tissue Recovery for Sonographers.
Hey #teamsono! Following the current theme of #STR summer, we have to dive in deeper behind why Soft Tissue Recovery is incredibly important for Sonographers.
The “Sonographers Shoulder”.
The infamous fact that approximately 90% of Sonographers suffer from Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WRMSD) is astonishing. That is why the “Sonographer Specific Work-Related Musculoskeletal S.T.R. Offensive Playbook” was written into existence. The Playbook is described as a resource that should be utilized for anyone invested in the health and wellness of the sonographer workforce and the patient population they serve.
Study shows that rest is Vital to #STR.
In the Playbook, Sonographers were compared to Baseball Pitchers through a study where Pitchers received different amounts of rest after pitching as much as they could. After each pitching session, the amount of pitches they were able to throw was recorded.
Pitchers proved to be an amazing comparison due to the fact that in baseball, the cost to maintain a healthy asset (the pitcher) does not exceed the cost to rehabilitate the asset’s asset (the arm), the ideal situation for Sonographers.
Those who received 0 days of rest could only perform around 20-40% of the pitches they could do when they received the maximum amount of rest (2-5 days).
In order to achieve actionable strategies addressing sonographer specific WRMS Disorders and stop them once and for all, sonographers (the employer’s healthy asset) need a similar structure of Ground Level team support to maintain their own asset (their shoulder). Without proper rest and recovery, these Professionals alike tend to follow a similar path, Soft Tissue Injury.
Prevent Musculoskeletal Disorders Now!
What are you going to do this summer to stay in the offensive space of #STR (soft tissue recovery) instead of defensive #STR (scar tissue rehabilitation)? #STR is free ALL SUMMER LONG, so YOU can prevent being grouped into the 90% of Sonographers that have some sort of Soft Tissue Injury.
